Advance of the vacation period: Favorable short-term rental bookings in the northern areas
Right On, Let's Chat About the Summer Holidays!
Gear up, folks! This weekend, vacation spots in Schleswig-Holstein are all set to welcome travelers as three federal states kick off their summer vacations. But the real rush isn't until mid-July, according to tourism experts.
With schools closing in the first federal states, Schleswig-Holstein's booking situation is showcasing a different regional picture. Manuela Schütze, spokesperson for Tourismus-Agentur Schleswig-Holstein (TASH), reveals the details.
Last-Minute Travel Intensity on the Rise
The popular coastal regions on the North and Baltic Seas are already booked solid, particularly from mid-July when North Rhine-Westphalia's holidays commence. However, there's still a chance for last-minute bookings at the coasts and inland areas during the early holiday phase.
Check out this week's MOPO, full of exciting reads! Topics cover the ongoing conflict between pedestrians and reckless cyclists, the tensions among Hamburg's Iranian community, an alarming report on brutal homophobic attacks, and more!
The holidays start on June 28 in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia, on July 3 in Lower Saxony and Bremen, and on July 7 in Hesse, Rhineland-Palatinate, and the Saarland.
"The trend toward last-minute travel decisions continues and is still strongly influenced by weather forecasts," Schütze explains. Flexible planners can still snag suitable accommodations, despite the high occupancy rates in peak holiday periods.
Last-Minute Bookings Weather-Dependent
Thorsten Ohm from the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (Dehoga) in Schleswig-Holstein highlights that the booking trend isn't consistent, and there's availability left, albeit limited. Last-minute vacations are highly weather-dependent, Ohm adds.
The staff shortage poses a significant challenge for the catering industry, Ohm notes. Many businesses are forced to close earlier or schedule additional rest days due to the shortage of workers. Guests seem to be showing increased price sensitivity.
ADAC: No Major Traffic Jams Until July
The ADAC doesn't predict congested road conditions for the final weekend in June. However, the situation will change drastically starting July 3 in Lower Saxony and July 14 in North Rhine-Westphalia. Rainer Pregla, spokesperson for the ADAC Schleswig-Holstein, points out the A1 between Hamburg, Lübeck, and Fehmarn as the most congested highway stretch.
In case you're wondering, failing to follow the new vacation rules will cost you dearly!
