Aeroflot expands services with an additional daily flight connecting Moscow and Gelendzhik, responding to increased passenger interest
Following the reopening of Gelendzhik Airport on July 10 after a six-month hiatus, Aeroflot has announced an increase in daily flights between Moscow and the popular Black Sea resort. From August 8 to October 12, the airline will operate three flights per day to accommodate the surge in tourist interest.
The airport's reopening has sparked a significant boost in tourist interest, as reflected by a surge in flight ticket searches and expected growth in hotel bookings. Gelendzhik has quickly become one of the top ten sought-after destinations among Russian tourists.
Aeroflot initially launched daily flights from Moscow on July 18, adding a second flight on August 1. The growing demand for travel to the resort area has necessitated the further increase to three flights a day.
To cater to this influx of tourists, Aeroflot will also be operating more spacious aircraft on these flights. The new airport terminal complex in Gelendzhik, which opened recently, has a capacity of 891 passengers per hour and can serve over one million passengers per year, significantly exceeding the capacity of the previous terminal.
The first flight of Aeroflot from Moscow to Gelendzhik will take off on July 18, with two flights per day scheduled from August 1. From August 8 to October 12, the schedule will see three flights per day. This increased frequency is a direct response to the reopening of Gelendzhik Airport and the resulting rise in tourist demand for travel to this popular resort.
This development is a positive sign for the tourism industry in Gelendzhik, which has been impacted by the pandemic, and is expected to bring much-needed economic growth to the region.
The surge in flight ticket searches and expected growth in hotel bookings, along with Aeroflot's increased flights, indicate a potential shift in lifestyle that prioritizes travel to Gelendzhik, a top ten sought-after destination among Russian tourists. With more spacious aircraft and a larger terminal complex, the resort's lifestyle scene is poised for a revitalization, catering to an influx of tourists who seek a Black Sea resort getaway.
