Celebratory City-Wide Event for Adored Panda Cubs Turning One in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is celebrating the first birthday of its home-grown giant panda twins, Jia Jia and De De, throughout August. The city-wide festivities include special events at Ocean Park, unique promotions, and a collaborative LABUBU x Panda Twins vinyl toy release.

The birthday celebrations kick off at Ocean Park's Giant Panda Adventure enclosure with a festive party featuring a giant dim sum steamer display and a peach-shaped longevity pastry. Visitors are invited to join in the celebration, creating a joyful atmosphere.

Outside the park, panda-themed photogenic displays can be found around the city. A notable highlight is the special birthday edition LABUBU vinyl toy, a collectible designed by Hong Kong artist Kasing Lung. This limited-edition toy features a bamboo-green LABUBU character wearing a polka-dotted birthday hat and holding the panda twins, packaged with a handcrafted birthday card from the artist.

The city-wide celebrations are led by the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau (CSTB) and the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB). In collaboration with the HKTB, the CSTB will transform 32 streets in Hong Kong with panda-themed street signs from late July. Each sign will feature customized designs blending photos of the twin pandas with local cuisine, cultural elements, and landmarks.

Commuters can watch a 30-minute interactive live broadcast of the celebrations at designated MTR stations. The birthday celebrations coincide with the HKTB's "Hong Kong Summer Viva" campaign, offering over 260 special offers from various establishments.

In addition, a lineup of international twin influencers, including the Stokes Twins, Rybka Twins, Shake Twins, Wang Xiaomai, and Kojiro Mizuo, will deliver birthday messages in various languages. Participants can win one of approximately 300 birthday gift boxes containing the birthday-edition LABUBU and a commemorative birthday card.

The HKTB has enlisted these influencers and the iconic LABUBU to shower the pandas with birthday wishes. Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Rosanna Law Shuk-pui has expressed gratitude for the care given to the pandas by Mainland giant panda experts and Ocean Park's animal care team.

Hong Kong's panda family includes Ying Ying and Le Le, the parents of Jia Jia and De De, along with other pandas gifted by the central government, making Hong Kong a prominent home for giant pandas outside mainland China. Join in the festivities and celebrate the first birthday of Jia Jia and De De!
