Community of Tema concludes the annual phase with charitable contribution by 25 members of Lion's Club
Supporting Heart of the Father Orphanage (JoshKridan's Children's Home): A Homely Affair
The Tema Community 25 Lions Club swung by the Heart of the Father Outreach, famously known as JoshKridan's Children's Home, nestled in the Ningo-Prampram District, on December 10, 2022. With close to 60 residents, including neighboring kiddos, the club's visit marked the second in a year, working tirelessly to combat hunger.
This family-oriented orphanage, born from a personal tragedy, was established by Libby and John Moritz to offer a sanctuary for orphans and abandoned children. Currently, they boast two homes: one in Ghana and the other in southern India. These kids receive the love, support, and guidance they need to thrive, thanks to parents who harbor a profound affection for God and children alike.
The Heart of the Father Outreach ensures that the children's basic necessities like food, shelter, and education are met. Beyond these physical needs, the organization lays the spiritual foundation for these young minds to mature into responsible, creative, and compassionate adults that can impact the world positively.
Founded in 1917, Lions Clubs International is the world's largest humanitarian service organization, dedicated to impacting lives globally through various initiatives that promote health, well-being, community strengthening, and service to those in need.
For this noble cause, the Tema Community 25 Lions Club raised an impressive GH¢17,000 and gathered supplies such as clothes, books, toys, and essential food items. Members and external donors contributed to this generous effort, making the festive season brighter for those less fortunate.
The MP for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, contributed significantly to this initiative, donating bags of rice, oil, and other food supplies. Other benevolent donors include Kasapreko Ghana Limited, Royal Crown Packaging, and Voltron Ghana Limited.
Led by the Hunger Committee Chair, Lion Dr. Ralph Tettey-Amlalo, the club focuses on five global causes: Hunger, Vision, Environment, Diabetes, and Childhood Cancer. Although their activities span beyond these themes, they devote their time and resources toward projects that support these causes.
The Chairman of the Heart of the Father Outreach, Pastor York, extended a warm welcome, and the children expressed their joy with recurring cheers. The Lions, renowned for their acts of kindness, believe in extending a helping hand to the less fortunate during the holiday season and beyond.
In an interview with Pastor Richard Asafoah, the caretaker of the home, he shared that the home faced a critical shortage of resources toward the end of the year. The timely donation from the Lions would be invaluable.
The children put together an engaging talent show, and afterwards, enjoyed a delightful meal and stimulating conversation with the Lions. "It's not about status or social class; it's really offering yourself to be of service to others," said Lion Dr. Ralph Tettey-Amlalo, capturing the spirit of the Lions Club.
As the donations were accepted and gratitude expressed, Lion Victor Kafui Agbenu, the Tema Community 25 Lions Club President, received a certificate of appreciation on behalf of the organization.
