Construction industry sets foundation for new job opportunities with the launch of a fresh training academy
New Construction Hub Academy in Oakdale Offers Training Opportunities
A new Construction Hub Academy has opened its doors in Oakdale, Caerphilly, providing a wealth of training opportunities for individuals and businesses within the construction sector.
The academy, a collaboration between industry partners and Coleg y Cymoedd, offers a range of courses, including cable avoidance training and various health and safety certificates. Learners can study at the academy's facilities in Oakdale or at Coleg y Cymoedd, where academy instructors deliver training on behalf of the college.
Chris, from the academy, emphasized the importance of supporting the local community, securing sustainable job opportunities, and helping businesses access high-quality staff with the right skills and training. He encourages businesses to be aware that funding is available to cover the cost of upskilling their employees, with no outlay for them.
The academy is open to people from other industry sectors who are looking to retrain and switch to careers in construction. It aims to develop a long-term apprenticeship scheme with Coleg y Cymoedd, where learners will study courses from the academy and gain on-site experience.
Construction businesses have the option for training to be delivered on their own sites if they prefer, with instructors able to travel across South Wales. The academy offers bespoke training packages tailored to companies' individual requirements.
The Construction Hub Academy offers industry accredited qualifications and short courses within the demolition and groundworks sector. It trains both beginners in construction and those already working in the sector who want to further develop their skills. The academy also offers training to use excavators, dump trucks, forklifts, and other plant machinery associated with building groundworks.
The academy has created 5 jobs for training instructors and plans to create an additional 4 jobs in the coming months for training coordinator and business development roles. It is particularly interested in filling these roles with people who have been in long-term unemployment.
In response to growing demand for groundworks staff, the academy was created. Dependent on eligibility criteria, government funding is available to individuals and businesses to cover the costs of training. The Construction Hub Academy's website, www.theconstructionhubacademy.co.uk, provides more information about courses and training opportunities.
The academy hopes to be a positive option for people looking to retrain and upskill in light of the pandemic, as there are plenty of job opportunities within the construction sector. Chris emphasized that the academy is committed to helping people gain the skills they need to secure sustainable employment and contribute to the growth of the local economy.
