The Enduring Ties Between Rödermark and Bodajk: A Journey Through Friendship and Culture

Delegation from Rödermark set for visit to partner city Bodajk

The bond between Rödermark, a town nestled in the Offenbach district of Hesse, Germany, and Bodajk, a picturesque Hungarian settlement, has stood strong for 33 years. A recent four-day journey by a group of 20 from Rödermark to Bodajk was a testament to their living twinning - a packed itinerary, warm hospitality, and reinforced calls to revitalize exchange in the future.

Tracing a 33-Year Journey

The journey from Rödermark to Bodajk spanned 1,900 kilometers, but the spirit in the group made the trip worthwhile. As Mayor Jörg Rotter put it, "City-to-city dialogues like these should never be underestimated. The distance may seem vast, but in our case, it amounts to mere miles in friendship's comparison!"

Culture, History, and Fellowship

The trip was far from just a bus ride. The delegation was treated to various cultural events, including visits to Csőkako, Várpalota, and the Királyszállás hunting lodge complex. However, it was the personal encounters that truly made the difference. Rotter expressed his gratitude to the hosts, saying, "The warmth displayed by the private hosts, the courteous interactions, and the friendships forged during this visit make our partnership with Bodajk a matter of the heart."

Bridging the Past and Present

Delving into Hungarian history and learning about the impact of the Treaty of Trianon offered valuable insights. Despite these weighty discussions, socializing and exchanging ideas took center stage, as evidenced by wine tastings, folk dance performances, and shared meals. Political debates also took place but were marked by civility and mutual respect.

A Renewed Call for Participation

The future of this partnership was a central topic of conversation. Both Rotter and his Hungarian counterpart, Lóránd Wurczinger, emphasized the need for more locals aged 15 to 50 to join the exchange, ensuring the partnership continues to flourish in upcoming years.

Looking Toward the Jubilee Year

In 2027, Rödermark and Bodajk will celebrate 50 years of Rödermark's existence and 35 years of their partnership. A grand gathering in Rödermark is planned, marking a time when it will be the Hungarians' turn to embark on this cultural and friendship-filled exchange.
