K7 Week: Free Access to Denmark's Museums and Theaters for Young People

Every September, Denmark hosts K7 Week, an annual cultural initiative that offers free entry to over 200 museums across the country for anyone under the age of 28[1][2]. Additionally, young people aged 18–25 can access theater performances for free as part of the program[1][2].

The objective of K7 Week is to encourage cultural engagement among young people by providing easy access to a wide variety of Denmark’s museums and theaters. It aims to promote cultural participation and make the arts more accessible to the younger generation.

Participating attractions include around 200 museums nationwide, making it a broad and inclusive event covering many cultural venues[1][2]. The specific museums and theaters vary but include key cultural institutions throughout Denmark.

While data on the number of tickets claimed in previous years is not readily available, it's known that when the free museum scheme first launched in 2020, 70,000 tickets were claimed[1]. Project manager Astrid Sperling hopes to outdo the previous year's number and get 80,000 guests in 2021[1]. However, she emphasizes the importance of a lasting effect, hoping to inspire a lifelong love for Denmark's history and culture in the younger generation.

K7 Week receives support from the Danish Agency for Culture and Palaces, Copenhagen Municipality, and the Augustinus Foundation. The project aligns with Astrid Sperling's belief that museums should be for everyone and that they play a crucial role in Denmark's shared understanding of history and cultural heritage[1].

If you are between 18 and 27 years old and interested in participating in K7 Week, you can download a personalized K7 card via the scheme's website to access participating attractions[1][2].
