JetBlue and United Airlines announce groundbreaking partnership, offering loyalty benefits and expanded flight network
On Thursday, JetBlue and United Airlines unveiled a collaborative partnership, dubbed "Blue Sky," which will allow customers to utilize each other's loyalty rewards and enjoy broader travel options.
According to a joint statement, this partnership will grant benefits like priority boarding, complimentary access to preferred seats, and same-day flight changes across both airlines. Moreover, customers will have the opportunity to redeem bonus miles on flight offerings from both companies, expanding the travel network available to passengers.
Set to begin pending regulatory approval, the partnership will provide United customers with increased access to flights in the Northeast, particularly in cities like Boston and New York, where JetBlue operates a combined 310 daily flights. Conversely, JetBlue customers will gain access to hundreds of additional domestic and international flights across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.
United will regain access to New York's JFK airport starting in 2027, with up to seven daily round-trip flights. During the same period, JetBlue plans to increase operations at Newark Liberty International Airport.
In the joint statement, JetBlue CEO Joanna Geraghty noted, "This partnership with United is a significant step for the industry, uniting two customer-focused airlines to deliver more choices for travelers and value across our networks." United CEO Scott Kirby echoed the sentiment, stating, "Blue Sky reflects our airlines' shared focus on innovation and the customer experience."
JetBlue reported a loss of $208 million over a three-month period ending in March, compared to a larger loss in the same quarter the previous year. In contrast, United reported revenue of $13.2 billion over the first quarter of 2025, marking a 5% increase from the same period a year ago.
According to U.S. Department of Transportation data, United controls about 16% of the U.S. airline market, while JetBlue accounts for roughly 4%. In early trading on Thursday, shares of JetBlue fell about 2%, while shares of United jumped 1.7%.
