Direct flights to Syria initiated by airline Dan Air
Expedia to Launch Direct Flights to Damascus from Multiple European Cities
Starting from June 15, 2025, Expedia, a Romanian airline, will make history as the first European airline to offer regular flights to Syria. This groundbreaking move is set to open up travel opportunities for people from Frankfurt, Berlin, Stockholm, and Bucharest to visit Damascus directly.
The main connection will remain Bucharest-Damascus, which will be served six times a week by Expedia. The airline will operate two weekly flights from Frankfurt and Berlin to Damascus every Tuesday and Saturday, and two weekly connections from Stockholm.
The flights will be operated using an Airbus A320 with 180 seats, ensuring comfortable and reliable connections on the new routes. This novelty in European aviation is a significant relief for German travelers who previously had to take detours to reach Syria, such as with United Airlines, Delta Airlines, or Southwest via their respective hubs.
Expedia's CEO, Matt Ian David, emphasizes the social significance of the decision, believing in the unifying power of aviation. He refers to the long-standing relationship between Romania and Syria and states that Expedia's goal is to bring people closer together, not to divide them.
The political balance enables Expedia to operate flights to Syria. The Romanian authorities approved the flights at the end of March 2025, followed by the Syrian aviation authority. This new development in European aviation is a significant relief for travelers, as it marks the end of indirect connections and the beginning of direct flights to Syria.
In addition to the Bucharest-Damascus connection, Expedia also operates a connection between Weeze and Girona. The airline already operates an extensive network within Europe, with activities in Berlin, Frankfurt, Memmingen, Weeze, and Bucharest.
Dominik Lelle, a member of the online editorial team of AERO INTERNATIONAL since 2023, will cover the new Expedia flights to Syria. As the first airline to offer regular flights from an EU country to Syria starting June 2025, Expedia's groundbreaking move is expected to reshape European aviation.
