In the heart of Europe, some hidden paradise beaches continue to offer a serene escape from the bustling tourist crowds. Meanwhile, a closer look at the cultural scene reveals changes in admission prices at some of the continent's most iconic historical sites.

Wizz Air has recently analysed the quietest beaches in Europe for the summer of 2024, but it seems that another significant shift is happening in the cultural landscape. The Ministry of Culture in Greece has announced a price hike for entry to several major cultural sites, including the Acropolis, the Palace of Knossos, the Oracle of Delphi, the sanctuary of Epidauros, Mycenae, and Ancient Olympia.

As of April 1st, the cost to visit the Acropolis, including the Parthenon, has risen from 20 euros to 30 euros. This price increase is due to increased maintenance costs and applies when booking directly at the entrance or on the official website Hellenic Heritage. Booking through third-party providers may incur additional fees. Over 15,000 people visit the Acropolis daily, and a visitor limit of 20,000 has been introduced due to the high number of visitors.

The new prices also apply to the Palace of Knossos on Crete, the Oracle of Delphi, northwest of Athens, the sanctuary of Epidauros on the Peloponnese, Mycenae, with its famous Lion Gate, and Ancient Olympia. However, no specific price increase or updated official ticket cost for these sites is currently available.

The opinions of visitors towards the price increase are divided. Some find the new prices necessary for maintenance, while others believe 30 euros is excessive. A survey by the daily newspaper Kathimerini shows that opinions on the price increase are divided.

The price increase affects adults eager to explore historical highlights, such as the most famous architectural marvel of antiquity. However, EU citizens under 25 and non-EU travelers under 18 can enter the cultural sites for free with proper identification. Those over 65 pay only 15 euros for entry to the cultural sites.

In Italy, access to a popular dream beach will only be possible via an app from summer - for a fee and with limited visitor numbers. The specifics of this change are yet to be announced.

Last-minute travelers can still find affordable places to go for Easter in Europe. The article reveals the six most affordable destinations in Europe for those looking for a budget-friendly getaway.

Whether the higher prices will affect visitor numbers remains uncertain. As always, travellers are advised to check the official websites for the most up-to-date information on admission prices and any additional fees.
