The youth hostel in Wetzlar has responded by pivoting to accommodate corporate and family guests. Now comprising 40% single or double beds, the multi-bed rooms are a thing of the past.
Hostels for All
Hostels aren't limited to school groups. As Knut Stolle, board member of the DJH, affirms; all guests are welcome in all youth hostels, including families, groups of friends, travelers solo, and individuals with disabilities. Each historic building isn't always wheelchair-accessible, but facilities like Wetzlar offer barrier-free rooms.
Membership with the DJH is required for stays, costing a mere 7.50 euros for those up to 27 years old, 22.50 euros for families and seniors, and 25 euros for groups. Despite the competition and low prices nipping at their heels, the youth hostel in Wetzlar enjoys consistent demand following its reopening.
Adapting to Change
The hostel industry is coping with the new zeitgeist, acknowledging school classes are no longer the only market segment.
