Franco-Vietnamese Couple's Vision: ICISE, A Beacon of Scientific Cooperation
The International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) in Quy Nhơn, Gia Lai province, stands as a testament to Franco-Vietnamese scientific cooperation. Established by Dr Lê Kim Ngọc and Dr Jean Trần Thanh Văn, both of Vietnamese origin and high-profile researchers at the National Centre for Scientific Research in France, ICISE aims to be a premier venue for high-level scientific conferences and promote scientific culture among the Vietnamese public.
Dr Lê Kim Ngọc and Dr Jean Trần Thanh Văn, a married couple, have dedicated their lives to advancing science and strengthening ties between Vietnam and France. In 1993, they founded Rencontres du Vietnam, an annual conference that has since become a significant event in the scientific calendar. Their commitment to science and education was recognized by French Ambassador Olivier Brochet, who awarded them the Legion of Honour in 2013.
ICISE, established in the same year, is part of the Explorascience complex, which includes a planetarium and several exhibition halls. The centre is designed with support from Universcience and other prestigious institutions. It seeks to attract researchers from around the world and inspire young people to pursue careers in science. Despite the lack of information about its founding, ICISE has grown to become a cornerstone of Franco-Vietnamese scientific cooperation, supported by the highest authorities of both countries.
Dr Lê Kim Ngọc and Dr Jean Trần Thanh Văn's vision for ICISE has transformed it into a premier scientific venue and a symbol of Franco-Vietnamese cooperation. Their dedication, personal fortune, and the support of French and Vietnamese authorities have made ICISE a cornerstone of scientific advancement and cultural exchange between the two nations.
