Global Sumud Flotilla Braces for Israeli Interception as It Approaches Gaza

A humanitarian crisis unfolds in Gaza as 2.4 million Palestinians face dire conditions due to a tightened blockade. Meanwhile, the Global Sumud Flotilla, carrying aid and activists, approaches Gaza, with Israeli interception attempts expected tonight.

The flotilla, currently 121 nautical miles from Gaza, is on high alert, anticipating interception by Israeli forces. Earlier today, an Israeli vessel temporarily disabled the lead ship Alma by disrupting its communications and engine. Despite this, the flotilla continues its course, with Israeli naval attempts to intercept so far unsuccessful.

The mission, organised by the International Committee for Breaking the Siege on Gaza, aims to deliver much-needed humanitarian supplies. It comes amidst a devastating conflict that has claimed over 66,000 Palestinian lives since October 2023, mostly women and children. The ship Al-Dhamir has recently set sail from Otranto, Italy, to join the mission, led by captains whose identities were not disclosed by Türkiye.

As the Global Sumud Flotilla presses on towards Gaza, Israel's navy prepares to seize the ships, transferring activists to a warship, and potentially towing or sinking the vessels. The humanitarian mission, despite facing challenges, remains determined to reach Gaza and alleviate the suffering of its people.
