Increased space for cabin accommodations

Christmas market in city center starts on November 18th, with fewer stalls for more spacious setup. This year's event will also feature lighting at Königsallee, Uecker Nagel, and Gustaf-Gründgens-Platz. A 3G rule will be enforced initially.

The much-anticipated Düsseldorf Christmas market is set to return this year, running from November 19th to December 30th, with a host of changes designed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for visitors amid the ongoing pandemic.

One of the most notable changes for the 2021 season is the introduction of new locations, such as the Marktplatz in front of the town hall, which will host a smaller Christmas market in addition to the main market at the classic locations. The Marktplatz market will feature reduced capacity, meaning fewer vendors and more space between stalls to allow for social distancing.

Other traditional market locations such as the Königsallee, Schadowplatz, and the Altstadt (Old Town) squares will be maintained, but with altered stall layouts and visitor flow management to limit crowd density. The overall approach for the season is to spread out the market over more areas to reduce congestion and ensure a safer visitor experience.

In addition to the Marktplatz, new locations for cabins and lights will be used for the first time, including between Marktstraße and Burgplatz, along Königsallee, and at the Gustaf-Grundgens-Platz where the Kö-Bogen Market will move from its usual location. Approximately 200 cabins will be set up at the Kö-Bogen Market, similar to previous years.

Safety measures will also be implemented at the markets, with construction work beginning at the end of October to ensure that all necessary precautions are in place before the markets open. Cabins will be set up in front of the Kö-Bogen at Uecker Nagel, and the additional cabins and lights along the bridges between the pyramid and Corneliusplatz will make for a special sight.

Unfortunately, there will be no Christmas carol singing this year, and the stage for live music at the Kö-Bogen Market will not be used. However, the goal of the market is to ensure comfort and safety for visitors, and adjustments during operation may be necessary to ensure this.

The Christmas world in Düsseldorf will return this year, offering a festive atmosphere despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. Detailed specifics on all exact new locations or capacity numbers were not found, but this reflects the general pattern of changes made in many German cities that year.

Visitors can find the opening and operation guidelines for the Christmas market on [www.duesseldorf-tourismus.de/weihnachtsmarkt](http://www.duesseldorf-tourismus.de/weihnachtsmarkt) according to the then applicable regulations. Fewer cabins have been planned for themed markets such as the Crafts Market and Sternchen Market, but the Kö-Lichter-Market will still offer a glowing wine pyramid at its lower end, creating a "magical place" on the bridge to Grün- or Bastionsstraße.

Despite the changes, the Düsseldorf Christmas market is set to bring a festive spirit to the city this year, offering a much-needed dose of holiday cheer.

  1. The Marktplatz, a new location for the Düsseldorf Christmas market this year, will host a smaller market with reduced capacity, featuring fashion-and-beauty, food-and-drink, and home-and-garden products.
  2. In addition to the Marktplatz, new locations such as Marktstraße and Burgplatz, along Königsallee, and Gustaf-Grundgens-Platz will introduce fashion-and-beauty, food-and-drink, and home-and-garden cabins, providing a diverse shopping experience.
  3. Visitors can expect travel-themed decorations at the Kö-Bogen Market, one of the traditional locations that will still offer a variety of fashion-and-beauty, food-and-drink, and home-and-garden products, along with the iconic glowing wine pyramid.
