International train service to connect Copenhagen with Prague, passing through Germany

In an exciting development for international rail travel, a new direct train service linking three of Europe's most popular capital cities - Copenhagen, Berlin, and Prague - is set to launch in May 2026. This service is part of ten European pilot projects aimed at promoting international rail transport, supported by the European Commission to improve cross-border rail connections.

The collaboration for this service involves Denmark's DSB, Germany's Deutsche Bahn (DB), and the Czech Republic's České dráhy (ČD). The new service will be operated using modern ComfortJet carriages from ČD, designed to offer a first-class travel experience. These trains will feature amenities such as a dining car, cinema area, onboard Wi-Fi, and seating for 555 passengers including 1st class.

The route will take passengers through Schleswig, Hamburg (Altona, Dammtor, and Hauptbahnhof), Berlin (Hauptbahnhof and Südkreuz), Dresden (Neustadt and Hauptbahnhof), and Bad Schandau before reaching Prague. Danish rail operator DSB plans for two daily departures on the route, with an extra departure at night time during the summer months.

The journey time from Copenhagen to Berlin will be approximately seven hours, and from Copenhagen to Prague will be around 11 hours. Tickets for this service will be available for purchase six months before the departure date, starting in December 2025.

The onboard staff will be composed of locally hired employees from each country the train passes through, ensuring a seamless travel experience for passengers. This initiative is a significant step towards enhancing cross-border rail connections in Europe and offering travellers a convenient and comfortable alternative to air travel.

For those interested in experiencing this new service, tickets are expected to go on sale around November 2025. Keep an eye out for ticket sales and get ready to embark on an unforgettable journey through Europe by train.
