Italy Hits 100,000 Covid-19 Deaths; Germany Reopens Gyms as Cases Stabilize

In Europe and Asia, nations are adjusting their Covid-19 restrictions and vaccination policies. Italy has sadly surpassed 100,000 deaths, while Germany's cases have stabilized. Meanwhile, Thailand and France are boosting their vaccination efforts.

Italy has become the first European country to reach a grim milestone, with over 100,000 Covid-19 deaths. The situation in Germany, however, has improved, with around 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and a declining death rate and intensive care numbers.

In Thailand, the government is preparing to welcome tourists back. From April, vaccinated foreign tourists will only need to quarantine for 7 days, while unvaccinated ones will face a 10-day quarantine. Thai nationals with a vaccination certificate will also enjoy a reduced 7-day quarantine. The country has designated certain provinces as 'sandbox' areas, allowing entry with a 7-day quarantine and vaccination certificate since October 2021.

France has ramped up its vaccination drive, opening hundreds of centers even on Saturdays, including four large military hospitals. Protests against vaccination and 'vaccine passports' have been seen in Romania, with around 3000 people gathering in the capital.

Some German federal states have reopened gyms, reflecting the easing of restrictions as the Covid-19 situation improves.

Italy's tragic milestone serves as a stark reminder of the pandemic's impact, while Germany's progress shows the potential for recovery. Thailand's plans to reopen to tourists, along with France's vaccination push, indicate a cautious return to normality. Meanwhile, protests in Romania highlight the ongoing debate surrounding vaccination and passports.
