Khabarovsk Krai's 'Eurasian Bird Count' Hunts for Rare Species This Weekend

In Khabarovsk Krai, bird enthusiasts are gearing up for the annual 'Eurasian Bird Count' event, taking place this weekend. Participants will observe and record bird species, with a focus on capturing images of rare and migratory birds.

The event, organized by the Non-profit Partnership 'Birds and People', involves filling out a report form on the website www.eurobirdwatch.ru. Participants must determine the species and quantity of birds observed, using a provided control list. The Russian Federal Ministry of Nature coordinates the event in Russia, which began in 2017, expanding it to the 'Eurasian Bird Count'.

In Khabarovsk Krai, the event aims to capture images of the elusive red-legged ibis, nearly extinct in the region. Local birdwatchers may also spot unusual species like the Ariel frigatebird or even pink flamingos. The mass photography event holds significant value for ornithology, potentially revealing a wider range of bird species than officially recognized. The event encourages both experienced birdwatchers and non-ornithologists to participate, with competitive elements added for the latter.

The 'Eurasian Bird Count' in Khabarovsk Krai offers a unique opportunity to observe and record bird species, including rare and migratory ones. The event not only contributes to ornithological research but also fosters public interest in bird conservation and migration.
