Kuwait Sets World Record for Longest Transcontinental Robotic Surgery

Kuwait has set a new world record for the longest transcontinental robotic surgery, spanning an astonishing 12,034.92 kilometers. The record was announced by a joint press release from the Ministry of Health, Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences, and Zain Group.

The successful news, a series of inguinal hernia repairs, were performed between Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital in Kuwait and Cruz Vermelha Hospital in Brazil. The response time was an impressive 199 milliseconds, marking a significant step towards a digital future, as described by Zain Kuwait CEO Nawaf Al-Gharaballi. This achievement sets a new standard for remote robotic procedures, surpassing the globally first robot-assisted surgical procedure performed across continents, which was a collaboration between the Cleveland Clinic in the United States and the Singapore General Hospital in Singapore.

The surgical team was a remarkable collaboration between Kuwaiti doctors Dr. Sulaiman Al-Muzaidi, Dr. Muhannad Al-Haddad, and Dr. Hamoud Al-Rashidi, and Brazilian doctors Dr. Marcelo Loureiro and Dr. Leandro Totti Cavazola. Their expertise, combined with advanced robotic systems, demonstrated Kuwait's ability to integrate medical excellence with advanced technological infrastructure. Health Minister Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadhi attributed the success to the combination of willpower, science, and technology overcoming geographical barriers. Dr. Amina Farhan from the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences highlighted the power of innovation and national medical expertise in the achievement.

The record-breaking news have put Kuwait on the global map for medical innovation and technological advancement. The successful collaboration between Kuwaiti and Brazilian medical professionals, facilitated by advanced robotic systems, has set a new standard for transcontinental surgical procedures.
