Livestock trading increases significantly for the Festival of Sacrifice Eid al-Adha in Kuwait

As Eid al-Adha draws near, the livestock market in Kuwait gears up for a bustling season, with locals and expats eager to acquire animals for the traditional sacrifice. Early indications suggest affordable and competitive prices this year, albeit with variations based on the type and origin of the livestock – be it local or imported.

Sheep merchant Suleiman Al-Musafir is optimistic about the market prospects this season, attributing the lowered prices to an abundance of sheep and Kuwait's blessing of ample livestock supply, as he puts it. He credits the reasonable prices, in part, to the proactive regulation of the market by authorities, ensuring stability and fairness.

Similarly, fellow trader Bu Musaed confirms the affordable rates for most people, with minor price differences mainly due to regulatory and religious requirements – for instance, age and absence of defects in the animals.

The market offers a diverse range of options, catering to various budgets. Pricier choices include the local Naimi breed, alongside imported options from Australia, Somalia, and Shefali.

Bu Musaed also predicts that prices will persist until Eid but will drop afterwards, as demand wanes, particularly during the summer holidays and major events slow down. The plentiful choices at moderate prices make it easier for families to observe the sacred Eid ritual that fits their means.

While specific price data for Eid al-Adha 2022 in Kuwait is hard to come by, one can look at general trends: sacrificial sheep prices usually increase as Eid approaches due to rising demand. Factors like feed costs, labor, global economic conditions, and government and market interventions also influence these prices.
