Jimbo's Take on London's Happiness Ranking
London, the beating heart of the UK, comes in 31st in the world's happiest cities, giving it a 'Zoom meeting got cancelled at the last minute' kind of vibe. With a score of 842 points, it's certainly happier than a whopping 170 other cities, but it’s still lagging behind about 30 others. B+, not too shabby, but room for improvement.
This year's ranking comes from the Institute for Quality of Life’s Happy City Index (HCI), which reviews cities across six key categories: citizens, governance, environment, economy, health, and mobility. London excels in governance (surprise, surprise) but falls short in health, much like those late-night kebab runs.
While the Danish folks top the happiness charts, taking up the first and fourth positions with Copenhagen and Aarhus, Zurich secures second place, Singapore takes third, and Antwerp snags fifth. The City of Light, Paris, trails behind in 13th place. But fear not, Londoners, for our capital city has another victory to boast about – it's been crowned the world's most romantic city by none other than Pour Moi!
In Pour Moi’s 'romantic city index,' the number of times reviewers used the word 'romantic,' the number of 'couple-friendly activities,' and Instagram posts with the hashtag #datenight[city] were crunched to determine the ranking. And, with literature, breathtaking sights, and a seemingly endless supply of cosy pubs, London clinched the top spot. Paris? Well, it's in ninth – Desolé, mon ami!
