"Monopoly-like Contest at Frost Festival 2025"
Unleashing Power Struggles and Inequality: A Cultural Revolution in Münster and Havixbeck
Prepare to delve into a captivating array of cultural events for the next ten days, culminating in the inaugural "Droste Festival" in Münster and Havixbeck. Hosted by Burg Hülshoff - Center for Literature (CfL), the festival will stretch from June 18th to 28th.
The festival boasts an eclectic lineup, from thought-provoking discussions to enchanting performances, all delving into the intricate web of wealth disparities, societal injustices, and the human race's never-ending game of power. The opening event on Wednesday, June 18th, promises to be unforgettable, with the electrifying performance troupe Baddabäm! serving up a boatload of fun (and enlightenment) with their Droste Show at Burg Hülshoff.
Program Highlights
Fasten your seatbelts as Helena Eckert and Jovana Reisinger prepare to blow your minds with their scintillating Dinner-Performance "Pleasure" on June 24th at Studio delulu. This tantalizing affair will question the boundaries of rebellion and self-empowerment, raising the curtain on a realm where luxury reigns supreme. Hendrik Quast will do a deep dive into the most precious commodity of all – the self – when he graces the Theater im Pumpenhaus stage for the theater performance "Hairkunft" on June 25th, dissecting the origins of his hair, social hierarchy, and the exorbitant cost of playing life's game at the highest stakes. The Volxtheater of Theaterwerkstatt Bethel will tackle head-on the pervasive issue of social class in their June 22nd performance "Staubaufwirbeln" at Haus Rüschhaus.
The Lesebühne show "Spiel mir das Lied vom Los," presented by the artist collective parallelgesellschaft on June 27th at Burg Hülshoff, will shatter the veil of reality, revealing capitalism's tooth-and-claw nature as a wretched game. Asal Dardan will recount her moving personal encounters, challenges, and triumphs with immigration, racism, and trauma in a gripping June 26th reading at Theater Münster. The Münster duo "this honorable fish" will concoct a potent brew of words and images for a spellbinding June 21st rendition of Charlie Chaplin's early silent film "Das Pfandhaus," accompanied by an electrifying live poetry reading by Media Mahmod.
Rue Obscure will seduce your senses with a Wohnopoly walk through Münster's Hansaviertel on June 19th at Bennohaus, while the Stadtensemble Münster will cast enchanting verses upon Havixbeck under the title "Ich hörte Sagen" on June 20th, evoking emotions or offering fleeting moments of relaxation during bus rides or seductive poetic exchanges on park benches. The festival will also feature numerous workshops, film screenings, exhibitions, and additional performances that strike at the very heart of classism, exclusivity, and the human quest for power.
A game-changer of the festival is the dynamic, all-inclusive game "Who's Got the Money?", developed by the savvy Chris Moeller for the Droste Festival. Players can access and download this game for free to extend the fun at home. During the festival, the Münsterland region itself will transform into the ultimate game board, and the game can be played live, with players collecting money bills hidden throughout the region to gain prizes, including coveted pieces of land – some even with banks – nestled in the Burg Garden! Details on the game's download, rules, and participation information are available at https://digitale-burg.de/studio/wer-hat-die-moneten.
