In a surprising turn of events, the New York Giants have released tight end Greg Dulcich, a move that could leave some teams in need of depth at the position viewing him as an intriguing waiver claim.

Dulcich, who turned 25 this year, had a short tenure with the Giants, having joined the team in 2024. His time with the team was marked by a roster battle with rookie Thomas Fidone, who has now claimed a spot on the Giants' 53-man roster.

Despite Dulcich's reputation as a player with a knack for finding the end zone and stretching the field, his performance during the preseason was not enough to secure a spot on the team. This was partly due to the consistency he showed, which was a deciding factor in the roster battle.

On the other hand, Fidone impressed with his all-around performance, demonstrating reliable blocking ability and catching eight of nine targets during the preseason. His consistency and potential have given the Giants confidence in him as a developmental piece.

It's worth noting that Dulcich struggled with injuries during his time with the Denver Broncos in 2024, which significantly impacted his performance, resulting in him not receiving a single catch or target in five games. These injury issues eventually led to him being cut from the Broncos' roster.

Initially, most expected Fidone to be relegated to the practice squad due to Dulcich's presence. However, the rookie's performance during the preseason and his ability to outshine the more experienced player ultimately resulted in him winning the roster battle.

Dulcich was drafted by the Denver Broncos in 2022. Following his release from the Giants, his future in the NFL remains uncertain.
