Newcomers join the Dortmund Police Force - Greetings to the new members of the Dortmund Police Department!
In a significant step towards enhancing safety and security in the city, 172 new police officers have joined the ranks of the Police Presidium Dortmund (PP Dortmund) on September 1st, 2025. The occasion was marked by a ceremony at the Regional Training Center in Dortmund-Aplerbeck, presided over by Police President Gregor Lange.
The new officers, who include Police Commissioners and government inspectors, will be responsible for a wide array of tasks, including investigating and preventing criminal offenses, ensuring traffic safety, and maintaining order in public spaces. With nearly 700,000 people relying on them for security, these officers are poised to make a significant impact.
In times of internal and external turmoil, the police serve as a fixed point and a guarantee for the safety and security of the community. Acknowledging this, Gregor Lange emphasized the importance of earning the trust of the people every day for the rule of law to function effectively.
The new officers have already proven their mettle, having successfully completed their dual studies. The current workforce at PP Dortmund comprises 3,945 individuals, including 438 government employees. On the same day, 341 police commissioner trainees and government inspector trainees began their dual studies.
The new Police Commissioners, many of whom were transferred from other agencies, will immediately reinforce the locations in Dortmund and Lünen. On August 29th, 2025, Gregor Lange had already appointed 115 of these officers as Police Commissioners.
The officers will be more visible in the city center and northern city center under the presence concept "Focus." This initiative aims to combat crime in public spaces and strengthen the security feeling of the Dortmund population. The Dortmund police also focus on topics such as combating extremism, child pornography, and promoting dialogue and trust with a diverse society.
