Romanic Day Set for May 31 on the Romanesque Route in Saxony-Anhalt
Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, is set to celebrate the Romanic Day on May 31, 2025, along the popular Romanesque Route. Several historical sites in Saxony-Anhalt will offer special guided tours, events, and concerts as part of the occasion.
Minister of State and Minister for Culture, Rainer Robra, views the day as an opportunity to delve into the rich medieval history of Germany. In a statement, he highlighted the region's significance as a political and cultural center of Europe a millennium ago and its exceptional preservation of artistic and architectural heritage.
Participating sites on this year's Romanesque Route include the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Naumburg Cathedral, the monastery church of Groß Ammensleben, the Liebfrauenkirche in Halberstadt, the monastery of Jerichow, the monastery and imperial palace of Memleben, the Merseburg Cathedral, Schloss Neuenburg, the ruins of Nordhausen, and the Quedlinburg Cathedral, among others.
The Romanesque Route, established in 1993, is a renowned tourist route in Germany, stretching approximately a thousand kilometers, and links 88 monasteries, cathedrals, treasuries, village churches, castles, and palaces in Saxony-Anhalt.
