Cruisin' on the Silver Spirit, a gem in Silversea's luxurious fleet, was my first taste of a voyage to remember! In April, I embarked on a six-day journey through the crystal-clear Aegean, making stops at Syros, Crete, Rhodes, Ephesus, and Mykonos before returning to the bustling city of Athens.
This wasn't your average cruise ship, pal. The Silver Spirit, launched in '09 and refreshed in '18, oozes class and maintains an immaculate appearance. Each passenger savors a spacious suite, most featuring a balcony with views of the mesmerizing ocean horizon.
With just 608 guests on board, you'd think it'd be cramped – but far from it. Thanks to the 411 dedicated crew members, the crew-to-passenger ratio is off the charts! And let me tell you, that means top-notch service throughout the ship. The speedy embarkation and disembarkation times were a testament to the efficient organization.
Now, step outside towards the heart of the ship – a beautiful, blue, rectangular pool, perfect for lounging and soaking up the sun. Surrounded by on-deck Jacuzzis, the area offers a serene retreat to unwind and relax. If thirst strikes, attentive waiters are never far, offering drinks and refreshments with a smile. Fancy some grub? Head over to the outdoor restaurant or bar, or climb a flight of stairs to find some of the best pizzas on a cruise ship at Spaccanapoli.
On board, the service is second to none. Staff members are friendly, courteous, and genuinely caring – making passengers feel welcome and appreciated at every turn. A phrase you might hear frequently is, "Have a wonderful day in [location]." Returning from shore excursions, crew members greet you with a warm, "Welcome home" that feels heartfelt.
The ship's team of well-trained butlers are the cherry on top of the impeccable service. The butlers are thorough, dedicated, and eager to make your stay as seamless as possible. For example, Narsiso, our corridor's butler, ensured our fruit bowl was always full, snacks magically appeared when we returned from evening events, and even helped with packing on departure.
Whether it's poolside, in the restaurant, or even the casino, the staff's commitment to service shines bright. And don't worry, though it's luxurious, it's not stuffy – nobody judges for dropping a C-note at the blackjack table!
But the service extends beyond the oblivious attentiveness. Excursion schedules are adjusted to accommodate tardy guests, dining services are flexible when reservations are missed, and even requests for late-night snacks are promptly fulfilled.
The cuisine on the Silver Spirit delivers, offering inventive and delicious dishes every day. With multiple formal and casual dining options, each with distinct fare and beautiful décor, guests are spoiled for choice. My personal favorite, Seishin, is an intimate sushi restaurant where you can watch the chefs' masterful knife skills as you dine.
Complimenting the dining options, the ship offers a well-equipped gym, Chariots of Fire-style jogging path, spa, sauna, steam room, and beauty salon. After you've worked up an appetite, unwind at the lounges with big, strong drinks and the soothing sounds of a musical maestro tickling the ivories.
Silversea puts on exclusive events, like the classical concert we attended at the ancient city of Ephesus' amphitheater. But it's Silversea's attention to detail, from personalized butler service to the relaxed lounges and sunny pool space, that truly sets the Silversea experience apart.
