Scenes and ambiance: Saarbrücken's Turngau along the Saar-Hunsrück highway
In the charmingly picturesque Hülzweiler, a captivating hike unfolded on the 13th of August, enthralling both nature and culture enthusiasts alike. The guiding force behind this grand outdoor adventure was Wanderwart Alfons Junk, the esteemed chairman of the TV Hilschbach. Over 40 hiking enthusiasts descended from seven different clubs, all gathering at the starting point: the Hülzweiler sports field.
The first jaw-dropping moment of the hike was the enchanting open-air stage of Hülzweiler, presently serving as the backdrop for "Treasure Island". Surrounded by a small, tranquil lake with the ship "Hispaniola" bobbing gently, it was a sight not easily forgotten.
Ascending to the famous Saar-Hunsruck-Weg, a forest path praised for its pure natural beauty and accessibility, hikers found themselves meandering along the path, sharing stories and laughter. Among the scenic wonders along the way was the Kneipp facility of the Schwalbach community, offering a chance to rest and rejuvenate with its cool, fresh waters.
A tranquil stop on the route was the Schwalbach forest chapel, dedicated to the Holy Mary and built in 1950. Nestled in the woods, it stood proud and untouched, inviting the hiking group to step inside for a moment of contemplation. Nearby, the 14 stations of a stone Way of the Cross provided a silence-worthy walk, encouraging reflection along the way.
The magnificent open-air stage of the Volksbühne Hülzweiler e.V., boasting an impressive 660 m2 playing area and seating capacity for almost 1,100 spectators, closed out the tour. It's one of the largest theater stages in the southwest, showcasing the grandeur of the region's cultural heritage.
The final destination for this unforgettable day was the Italian restaurant "Zum Schützenhaus" in Schwalbach. As hikers gathered once more, they reveled in delicious cuisine and stimulating conversations, bringing the day to a harmonious close. A hike that enthralled both nature and culture enthusiasts, it's a day they'll never forget.
