Sluggish Tourism Growth in Burgenland Amid Delayed Easter and Persistent Rainfall
Peek at Burgenland's Tourism Slump in March 2025 🚶♀️🏨
Springtime in Burgenland didn't quite bloom as expected this year, with a significant dip in the tourist crowd.
- Taking a step back, Burgenland witnessed a whopping 17.1% decrease in tourist overnights stays in March 2025 compared to last year.
- The total number of overnights stands at a sobering 158,362, with a 85% domestic domestic visitor turnout.
- Facing this tourism turbulence head-on, Burgenland Tourism is pulling out all the stops to establish the region as a year-round destination.
Now, let's crack the code behind this Springtime slump.
According to Didi Tunkel, the Managing Director of Burgenland Tourism, the late Easter this time around is the culprit. 🐰
In contrast to last year's Easter falling within March, this year it's in April, which is reflected in the numbers.
But it's not just the shift in Easter dates causing the commotion. The rainy and unstable weather in eastern Austria also left its mark. 🌧️
"The unpredictable weather was challenging, but Lake Neusiedl benefited from the rainfall," said Tunkel.
Stepping up to the plate, Burgenland Tourism is rolling out the ‘Always-On’ marketing campaign to promote the region as a diverse holiday spot - rain or shine! 🌞️
The cycling and outdoor season kicked off in March with the traditional bike ride and the lake opening at Lake Neusiedl and Lake Neufeld, marking the start of the summer season.
If you're keen on exploring more, Burgenland will be making an international appearance at events like the E BIKE DAYS in Munich and the Hamburger Hafenfest. The goal? Establish the Burgenland as an attractive, year-round destination.
"We've also got plans for more tourist actions and cooperations to boost the region's visibility beyond its borders," announced Tunkel.
Remember, there's always something happening in Burgenland, no matter the season! 🎉
