Our destination was Fosshótel Hellnar, a captivating rural hotel nestled along the cliffs of the wild coast. The hotel, which once served as a yoga/wellness retreat, was transformed by the Fosshótel chain and is open year-round, save for the darkest winter months.
Located in the picturesque fishing village of Hellnar, Fosshótel Hellnar boasts a sophisticated and cozy Scandinavian-style decor. The lobby offers panoramic windows, a roaring fireplace, and warm hues of soft blues and browns. The guest rooms are equipped with traditional lace bedspreads, TVs, coffee/tea facilities, free WiFi, and more.
Hellnar and Arnarstapi: A Coastal Trek
Begin the day with a leisurely hike along the coast from the hotel towards the quaint fishing village of Arnarstapi. Although a short drive from Hellnar, the hike offers breathtaking views and takes just over an hour each way.
Arnarstapi is a small village that once held significant importance as a trading post. The pier, as well as the coastline surrounding the village, is virtually adorned with striking columnar basalt rock formations. Take a stroll along the shoreline and admire the stunning scenery.
