Firing Up Skills: Youth Work Programs in Biysk, Russia

Summer is right around the corner, and student and youth detachments in Biysk are gearing up for an exciting season! Over the next few months, these young workers will dive into various professions across different cities. Inquisitive newcomers and seasoned veterans are eagerly anticipating another enriching work period.

"Get ready for a challenging but incredible summer," said Yevgeny Smetanin, the head of the Biysk student detachment department, addressing the future workers. "It's thrilling to see the newbies heading out for the first time. They'll return home as transformed individuals. Each year, the personal growth of these young individuals is really noticeable, and that's no exaggeration."

Representatives from educational institutions, esteemed guests, and veterans of the student detachment movement gather to cheer on the workers. They bid the youngsters farewell with warm words and encouraging speeches, wishing them a productive and victorious season.

"The third labor will be quite long. So, stay focused, pay attention to your health and the health of your peers, and the third labor season will undoubtedly be warm, joyful, and unforgettable," expressed Pavel Shchukin, the representative of student detachment movement veterans.

Nearly 300 student detachment workers from various institutions will serve as mentors in child health camps, train conductors in Volgograd and Samara, electrical and service professionals in the Altai districts, fish processors in Kamchatka, and machinists and landscape architects in the agricultural sector.

"At first, we faced a peculiar situation: we were supposed to work in Moscow, the beautiful heart of our country. But things suddenly changed – we're heading to Saratov instead," shared Apollinaria Golikova, commander of train conductor student detachment "Bit Koles." "We didn't let disappointments get the better of us when our destination switched. Saratov, previously unknown to us, has now become our mountaintop – we've never been there before."

These work trips are an excellent chance for students to spend their vacations productively, mingle with new people, familiarize themselves with potential careers, and earn some income. However, prior to their work, the students painstakingly prepare, mastering the fundamentals of their professions to help them throughout the season.

"We'll be off to Yarrow, where we'll work as bartenders, waiters, housekeepers, kitchen helpers, and chefs," shared Victoria Ermokova, commander of student service detachment "White Fox." "We've never been there before, so we're really psyched to explore and discover the unknown."

The students will participate in a countrywide project in the Republic of Tatarstan, working under the supervision of skilled mentors from student brigades. In addition to work tasks, they will partake in sports, creative, and intellectual events.

At the commencement ceremony, the students received their work permits. They will only return home to their beloved Biysk in late August, when the construction brigade reconvenes to evaluate their summer work.
