Just a sprinkle of dust on the rapid expansion plans for Clear, as the expedited verification lanes have temporarily ceased operation in New York's Terminal 7 at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).
Clear, which had only recently brought its lightning-fast security experience to Terminal 7, now finds itself temporarily closing up shop in this terminal. Just weeks ago, the company was still operational in three JFK terminals.
Strictly speaking, the powers that be at Clear weren't dishing out all the tea on why the change of heart with the Terminal 7 operation. However, the move seems to line up rather neatly with the swiftly changing landscape of Terminal 7 itself.
Let's get to the heart of the matter: United Airlines, a Clear partner, decided to pack its bags and call it quits on Terminal 7, effectively ending its daily transcontinental flights to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) at the end of October.
If that wasn't enough to rock the foundations, Terminal 7 is bracing itself for more upheaval as British Airways prepares to move to Terminal 8 come mid-November, joining its fellow Oneworld partner American Airlines in the process. The relocation is expected to be wrapped up by December.
But fear not, dear travelers! Clear's other flagship airline partner, Delta Air Lines, maintains a steady presence in Terminals 2 and 4 at JFK, where Clear's handy kiosks continue to whirr away. Clear is open from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Terminal 2 for TSA PreCheck-eligible travelers, and from 4:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Terminal 4 for both TSA PreCheck members and other jet-setters.
As you may have guessed, Clear's equipment still stands faithful in Terminal 7, as our managing editor for news, Clint Henderson, noticed during a fly-by for a flight aboard the remaining domestic carrier still stationed in Terminal 7 - Alaska Airlines.
For what it's worth, Henderson confirmed that the TSA PreCheck lanes remained intact, humming along like a well-oiled machine.
Clear has labeled the move as a "temporary" closure, much like United's promises of revisiting JFK at a later date. Keep your peepers peeled for updates on Clear's plans for the future!
In the meantime, Clear fans can still catch the action at more than 60 other airport and stadium locations across the U.S., including LaGuardia Airport (LGA), Madison Square Garden, and Yankee Stadium.
