Tesla's Autopilot Safety Concerns Spark Boycott Campaign
Tesla's Autopilot system has been involved in numerous crashes, with over 1,000 incidents and 33 fatalities. The Dawn Project, led by tech billionaire Dan O'Dowd, is launching a campaign to boycott Tesla due to safety concerns, including two commercials during Super Bowl LVIII.
The first fatal Autopilot crash occurred in 2016, killing Joshua Brown. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) recommended safeguards, but Tesla didn't fully comply. Three years later, Jeremy Banner died in a similar crash. The NTSB found that Tesla allows Autopilot use in unsafe locations.
The Dawn Project's commercials highlight these dangers, featuring real crash footage. O'Dowd argues that buying a new Tesla finances an 'unfinished, dangerous product'. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has investigated Autopilot, but the Dawn Project deems these efforts insufficient.
The Dawn Project urges consumers to boycott Tesla until it addresses safety defects in its self-driving software. The group's founder, Dan O'Dowd, believes that pressuring Tesla is necessary to remove its defective software from public roads.
