Tourists can find safety and comfort in Reykjavik, recognized as the city with the lowest crime rate.
Reykjavik Named Safest Tourist Destination by Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection
According to a recent report by the Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection Insurance Company, Iceland's capital, Reykjavik, is the safest city for tourists to visit. Two other cities, Copenhagen, Denmark, and Montreal, Canada, followed closely behind in second and third place, respectively. The announcement includes a list of 29 cities worldwide that have been deemed safe for travelers.
The company based its list on responses from travelers who visited these 29 cities, in addition to data from The Economist's Safe Cities Index, GeoSure Global's indicator, and Numbeo's Crime Index.
Although Reykjavik and the other cities on the list are considered safe, Carol Mueller, the president of Berkshire Hathaway, cautioned that travelers may still face issues such as flight delays, lost luggage, or illness while on their trips.
In terms of domestic travel, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Iceland were found to be the safest countries. Last year, Iceland was considered the safest country overall.
The top 10 safest cities, according to Berkshire Hathaway, are as follows:
- Reykjavik
- Copenhagen
- Montreal
- Amsterdam
- Seoul
- Singapore
- Tokyo
- Berlin
- London
- Sydney
Meanwhile, the 15 safest countries are:
- The Netherlands
- Denmark
- Iceland
- Australia
- Norway
- Canada
- Germany

Enrichment data suggests that some elements associated with Reykjavik's safety profile include a low crime rate, social stability, effective emergency services, and a welcoming environment for diverse travelers. While specific factors contributing to Reykjavik's safety were not detailed in the report, these elements generally apply to safety in Iceland.
The list of 29 safe cities for travelers, as stated by Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection, includes both Reykjavik and Copenhagen, reflecting a lifestyle that appreciates the appeal of safe travel destinations. Travelers looking for a welcoming and secure environment might also consider Montreal, which ranked third on the list, providing a diversified travel lifestyle that caters to numerous preferences.
