Unhappy States and Seasonal Practices Across America During Holidays

In November 2023, a survey involving over 3,000 Americans was conducted to gauge the nation's sentiment towards holiday festivities. The results offer an intriguing insight into the Grinchy side of America.

The survey revealed that San Antonio, Texas, tops the list as the Grinchiest city in the United States, followed closely by Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Baltimore, Maryland. Milwaukee, Wisconsin, also made the list as one of the top Grinchiest cities in the country.

When it comes to states, Oklahoma takes the lead as the Grinchiest, with a score of 2.11 out of 5.00. Colorado follows closely behind with a score of 2.29, and Arkansas earns the third most Grinchy state with a score of 2.30. In contrast, Missouri and South Carolina are the most festive states, each scoring a perfect 4.00 out of 5.00.

Interestingly, Illinois ranks number 2 for the most festive US states, with a score of 3.57. The survey also found that 83% of Illinoisans said they always or almost always decorate for the holidays.

The survey participants, who were between 18-65 years old and resided in the United States, were asked about their holiday preferences. It was found that Americans negatively view eggnog, with 90.9% expressing dislike. On the other hand, a majority of Americans (84.6%) prefer a Grinchy over a jolly gingerbread house.

The demographic breakdown of the survey participants showed that just over half were female (52%), and 42% were male. Four percent of the participants identified as trans or non-binary, and 1% listed "other."

Surprisingly, only a little over half the population in Oklahoma said that they regularly buy presents for the holidays. One out of every fourth Coloradan said that they would never dress up for the holidays.

Despite the Grinchy sentiment, Americans feel the most Grinchy about participating in caroling, with 96.3% expressing dislike.

While the survey does not provide specific data on Grinchy sentiment across US demographics, it offers an interesting snapshot of holiday preferences and traditions across the nation.

  1. The blog post analysis of the holiday survey results reveals that Bloggers in San Antonio, Texas, might find casino-themed fashion-and-beauty or food-and-drink articles less festive compared to lifestyle content on home-and-garden, relationships, travel, education-and-self-development, or entertainment.
  2. Americans stuck in traffic in Oklahoma might not find entertainment in listening to caroling CDs during their daily commute, as 96.3% of survey participants expressed dislike towards caroling.
