Breaking: Panjab University students to pack their bags for culture, education! 📚🗺️
University of Punjab halts recreational journeys, emphasizes on academic travel instead.
Say goodbye to beach days in Goa or bonfires in Manali – students at Panjab University will trade their swimsuits for sacred texts and scientific knowledge! The university has decided to limit campus council-organised trips to only educational and religious destinations.
The new travel guidelines are detailed in a fresh Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) implemented by the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC). Here's the lowdown on the new approved destinations:
👉 Partition Museum and Sri Harmandir Sahib in Amritsar👉 Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan👉 Nalanda University and Bodh Gaya in Bihar👉 Science City in Kapurthala👉 Virasat-e-Khalsa in Anandpur Sahib👉 Vaishno Devi temple in Jammu👉 Rashtrapati Bhawan, Parliament, and Prime Ministers Museum in New Delhi
The student council president will have priority for organizing one trip each, followed by the general secretary, vice-president, and joint secretary. Department approval and funding allocation will be required for all trips.
The new SOP was drafted after the Dean of Student Welfare (DSW) stepped down in April amid an ongoing inquiry into a fatal campus incident. The DSW office is currently being managed by a committee, which recognized the need for change in student trips to leisure destinations. The committee felt this SOP was necessary to bring transparency and structure to the student trips.
Though the SOP has been in place for a few weeks, the DSW has yet to officially receive these instructions. The DSW, Amit Chauhan, has stated that the SOP will undergo a few changes but should be implemented, ensuring increased transparency in the allocation of funds for these trips.
Officials are considering updating the list of destinations with the addition of "etc." to account for more educational and religious locations as they become available. Additionally, they've made the presence of two wardens mandatory on the trips – one male and one female. This is a significant shift from previous trips, where student council members were responsible for coordination.
In the past, trips organized by the student council were often to hill stations in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand or beach locations like Goa. However, with the new focus on educational travel, students will get a unique opportunity to explore ancient temples, historical museums, national parks, and centers of learning.

- Instead of vacationing at beach locations or hill stations, students will likely be found exploring places of education, such as Nalanda University in Bihar, which has been included in the new travel guidelines.
- As the focus on educational travel grows, students may find themselves visiting Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi, a significant political destination that has been added to the approved list of educational and religious sites for student trips organized by the PUCSC.
