Unveils Display of Hidden Gems in Himachal Folk Art: Prahlad Singh
The National Museum in New Delhi is currently hosting an exhibition titled "Unknown Masterpieces of Himachal Folk Art", which showcases the rich and diverse folk art traditions of Himachal Pradesh. This exhibition, open for public viewing until July 31, 2019, is a joint effort between the National Museum and Home of Folk Art (Museum of Tribal, Folk, and Neglected Art) in Gurugram.
The exhibition was curated by B.N. Aryan, Director of Home of Folk Art, Gurugram. Over 240 artifacts are on display, with 230 of them being part of the personal lifetime collection of Late K.C. Aryan. The exhibition features traditional paintings, textiles, woodwork, metal crafts, and other indigenous art forms, aiming to bring attention to the vibrant cultural heritage and craftsmanship rooted in Himachal’s rural communities.
The Minister of State (I/c) of Culture & Tourism, Prahlad Singh Patel, inaugurated the exhibition. During the event, he stated that folk art and folk culture are integral to the survival of any society. The exhibition has been well-attended, with Akhilesh Mishra, Director General of ICCR, B.N. Aryan, Director of Home of Tribal Folk Art, and other dignitaries in attendance.
The exhibition is open for viewing from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM (Tuesday to Friday) and 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM (Saturday & Sunday). However, it will not be open on Mondays and National Holidays. Admission to the exhibition is free for all visitors.
