Woman Unaware of Winning AUD 25,000 From Forgotten Lottery Ticket

A lady who got several lottery tickets for Mother's Day back in May, completely forgot about them. Little did she know, she had scratched her way to AU$25,000 ($16,700)! The lucky winner hails from Launceston, Australia's fifth-largest inland city, who remained oblivious to her enormous win for nearly two months.

The fortune-laden tickets were a gift from her children at a local store named Shearwater IGA. The store, located at 30 Shearwater Boulevard, Shearwater, sold the winning tickets for the popular game Instant Scratch-Its. Upon receiving the tickets, she excitedly scratched one but the rest ended up stuck on her fridge, forgotten.

Curiosity finally got the better of her, and she decided to scratch off the remainder of the tickets a month later. To her surprise, she found out that she had hit the jackpot, one of the top prizes from the game. "I phoned my son, and I said to him, 'Remember those scratchies you guys gave me for Mother's Day? Well, I won $2 and then $25,000!' The phone went dead silent," explained the ecstatic lottery player.

A Windfall for the Winner's Family and Friends

Jeremy Kode, a representative from Shearwater IGA, expressed his delight about the venue's contribution to the lucky winner's life. "We're thrilled to have sold a top prize Instant Scratch-Its ticket and have been sharing the good news with all our customers," he said.

When asked about her plans for the winnings, the humble winner decided to spread the wealth, gifting each of her three children AU$5,000 ($3,300). She also has a surprise in store for her friends, planning a getaway that will leave them in awe. "They won't know what's hit them. We'll have to open the bottle of champagne to celebrate," she revealed.
